Hi there Mom,

The twins must think that they’ve moved to “Bubbe-land” with so many of our Aleph Springs neighbors spoiling them silly. I definitely didn’t have to worry about finding baby sitters. The only “problem” is deciding who to leave them with. The competition is fierce. (Ha! Ha!) Kayla and Jessica tell everyone that they can’t wait to take you around and introduce you.

I can’t believe after just four months how much the three of us feel so much at home here. It’s not like our old neighborhood where we hardly knew anyone. It’s more like how you described growing up in Queens, with half the relatives living on the same block and everyone caring about each other.

There’s a couple with three kids who just moved in to their new house. One of the boys just turned five, so he’s a few months younger than the twins. Besides that, they have a whole gang of friends at the Gan Neve Shalom pre-school at the Havurah and even more at Sunday morning Hebrew school.

So much for your worrying about them getting a Jewish education. They’re already teaching me everything I hated having to learn at Hebrew School. I admit it: Hannukah is going to be a kick. I even promised to make latkes for the class. Me? Can you believe that? (So would you mind emailing me your recipe, please?)

What’s amazing, Mom, is that it’s all RIGHT HERE. That’s what I can’t get over. There’s a playground a couple of steps away. I can watch them through my window. And they have a community garden we’ll be starting to plant in the spring.

As for work, it turns out I’m NOT the only psycho-therapist in this town. (That’s a joke around here; almost everyone’s a therapist or a doctor.) But with the connections I’ve made through the Havurah, I’m doing fine. And I have the time to get in a run on the bike path before dropping them off for school.

I’m going to get them involved in the Ashland Children’s Theatre programs. You know what (kosher) hams they are!

Don’t get your hopes up, but you’ll be happy to know that, with all these baby sitters, I’ve been starting to go out a bit. I’m even taking tango lessons.

When you come, the twins want to take you to Science Works, it’s a hands-on kids’ museum a few blocks away.

By the way, they’re starting to build the condominiums here at Aleph Springs. Hint-Hint.

Love,
Susan, Kayla and Jessica
