Contest: Help Name our Official Aleph Springs Bird, Bush, Tree and Flower

“Countries, states and cities have official birds, trees and flowers, so why not our new neighborhood?” Laurel Miller, a partner in the Aleph Springs project, wondered aloud.

When no one came up with a good answer—and everyone smiled—this contest was born: The partners are soliciting suggestions from the public for the Official Aleph Springs’ bird, bush, tree and flower. The names that are selected—along with all nominations—will be posted on our web site. The winner in each category will receive a $25 gift certificate at Greenleaf Restaurant in Ashland. Winners will be notified by phone or email.

“When we went next door to the Havurah Shir Hadash and asked Rabbi David for his ideas, says Miller, he told us that no matter what species we chose for the bird, it absolutely had to be a ‘bird of pray.’

“As for his idea for the name of a bush, who could have guessed:

“Burning.”

Aleph Springs, comprised of eight single-family homes and six condominium units, is a new “Jewish-inspired” neighborhood “wrapped around” the Havurah. Home sites are now available.
